"Actively engaging our communities is at the core to maximizing our impact worldwide"

State Street Corporation (NYSE: STT), one of the world's leading providers of financial services to institutional investors, today announced the launch of statestreet.com/better, a new interactive website highlighting the company’s commitment to corporate citizenship.

Commenting on the site, Alison Quirk, executive vice president and Chief Human Resources and Citizenship Officer at State Street said, “We believe that global companies should be held accountable for driving civic good in the communities where they do business. This initiative not only underscores our values: Always Finding Better Ways, Stronger Together and Global Force Local Citizen, but also illustrates the passion and focus of our 29,800 employees who consistently volunteer their time and talent to benefit communities around the world.”

The multimedia and interactive features available on the website include:

  • A series of videos profiling the work of the Boston Debate League, Women’s Lunch Place and the Hull Life Saving Museum, three examples of non-profit organizations supported by State Street and its employees.
  • State Street’s new Making Life Better report, focused on education, highlights grants awarded by the State Street Foundation aimed at fostering education and workforce development. In 2011, the State Street Foundation awarded $20.5 million in grants to non-profit organizations globally.
  • Volunteer stories that celebrate State Street’s employees and the role they play in the communities where they live and work.
  • A live feed to State Street’s Twitter handle, @STTCommunity, providing frequent updates on the company’s participation at community events and conferences tied to diversity and inclusion, sustainability, philanthropy and volunteerism.

The site also highlights State Street’s global sponsorship of Oxfam’s Trailwalker and Trailtrekker endurance events. More than 22,000 people will participate in 15 Trailwalker events this year in 12 countries. Together they will raise approximately US $18 million for Oxfam's international development and humanitarian work.

"Actively engaging our communities is at the core to maximizing our impact worldwide," said George Russell Jr., executive vice president and director of corporate citizenship at State Street. "We are proud of our long-standing tradition of giving back to the community through charitable contributions, volunteering and sustainability—a tradition that is underscored by our most valuable resource, our employees."
