State Street Foundation Celebrates Its 40th Anniversary

The Foundation’s Signature Program, Boston WINs, Marks Its Second Year

BOSTON & TORONTO December 21, 2017 - State Street (NYSE:STT) today announced that its Foundation marked its 40th year anniversary since first established as a charitable trust in 1977. The Foundation makes grants to nonprofits and nongovernmental organizations in more than 25 countries with a primary strategic focus on education and workforce development. 

State Street Foundation’s Impact Framework guides investments in high-performing nonprofits that are providing measurable results in education, job-readiness, college success and work experience and employment readiness. The funding strategy serves disadvantaged populations and aligns with State Street’s talent and diversity goals. Highlights include: 
• Approximately 13,000 grants awarded totaling more than $273M since 1977
• $31 million in employee gifts to nearly 6,000 organizations since the matching gifts program was introduced in 2002
• Almost one million employee volunteer hours recorded with approximately 3,500 organizations since 2004
The Boston Workforce Investment Network or Boston WINs, the State Street Foundation’s cornerstone philanthropic program recently marked its second anniversary. The multi-year program invests $20,000,000 in grants to five local and national nonprofits and 20 Boston Public Schools around a common mission of preparing Boston youths for 21st century careers. 

Through Boston WINs State Street has:
• Hired nearly 500 Boston Public School graduates
• Provided work experience for nearly 1,000 Boston WINs interns
• Opened the first scalable and sustainable employer-sponsored Year Up learning site at one of its Greater Boston offices
• Matched more than $200,000 in employee donations
• Funded the expansion of key student services by 53% over pre-WINs levels
• Donated nearly 3,800 employee volunteer hours
• Created school-based approach to delivering services known as Coordinated Action
